Rogers Wins Spurlock Award

Kenneth McRae Rogers, M.D., was honored with the 2011 Jeanne Spurlock Minority Fellowship Achievement Award during APA's annual meeting in Honolulu in May. The award was announced at a reception attended by APA minority fellows and alumni of the program. Rogers was unable to attend but sent a prerecorded message of appreciation to be played in his absence.
Rogers is a professor of psychiatry at the University of South Carolina and chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Greenville Hospital System. He previously served as director of child and adolescent psychiatry training at the University of Maryland. He was recently elected vice president of the South Carolina Psychiatric Association.
Rogers completed medical school at the University of South Carolina and his residency and fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of South Carolina's William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute. He also earned a master's degree in health services from UCLA. His research and clinical pursuits have focused on factors related to identification and referral of youth for mental health services in the juvenile-justice system.
The Jeanne Spurlock Minority Fellowship Achievement Award was established in 2000 in honor of the late Jeanne Spurlock, M.D., who was an APA deputy medical director and head of its Office of Minority and National Affairs. The award recognizes the outstanding achievements of alumni of the APA minority fellowships program and encourages continued involvement in that program.
