AAPDP to Meet at Annual Meeting

The 55th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry (AAPDP) will be held in conjunction with APA's annual meeting in Honolulu from May 12 to 14. The AAPDP is composed of psychiatrists who are interested in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
The theme for this meeting, "Psychodynamic Approaches to Treatment Resistance and Therapeutic Obstacles," reflects the association's strong clinical and psychodynamic orientation and strong affiliation with APA. It also reflects its efforts to promote and maintain psychotherapy as an integral part of psychiatric practice and the academy's efforts to promote greater training of psychodynamic psychotherapy for psychiatry residents and early career psychiatrists.
The meeting will offer a diverse and stimulating program starting with John McDermott, M.D., as the opening speaker. He is the co-founder of the psychiatry program in Hawaii and of many other programs in the countries of the Pacific Rim. His lecture is titled "Evolution of Multicultural Identity in Hawaii and Its Implications for the Future."
APA President Carol Bernstein, M.D., will deliver the keynote lecture, titled "The Changing Face of Medicine and the New Generations of Psychiatrists."
The meeting will honor Marianne Eckardt, M.D., who was president of the academy 32 years ago, the last time it met in Hawaii. The program will also feature other presentations by prominent psychodynamic psychiatrists and analysts on a variety of topics including neurobiology, anthropology, psychopharmacology, and culture and the arts.
Psychiatry residents and medical students can attend for free, and there is a discount for psychoanalytic candidates. More information is posted at <www.aapdp.org>.
