Foundation Gala Offers Tasty Slice of Hawaii

When you think of Hawaii, what do you think of? "Aloha"? White, sandy beaches? Luaus at sunset?
How about the history of the island and its culture?
For that slice of the Hawaiin experience, the place to go is the Bishop Museum. It is dedicated to studying, preserving, and telling the stories of the cultures and natural history of Hawaii and the Pacific. Here's where you can learn anew or deepen your knowledge of this rich, multicultural tropical island and its people.
Meeting goers will have an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful grounds of this historic museum—founded in 1889—by attending the American Psychiatric Foundation's annual benefit.
The benefit will be held on Monday, May 16, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees will dine on fine cuisine while listening to live music and watching the pandanus trees dance in the ‘Ōlauniu wind. The evening's program also includes the presentation of the Awards for Advancing Minority Mental Health.
Not only will you have a fabulous evening experiencing the ambiance of the Hawaiian outdoors, but purchasing a ticket means you'll be doing good. Event proceeds support the work of the foundation through grants, programs, research funding, and awards that advance public understanding that mental illnesses are real and treatable.
Tickets cost $125 until May 1 and $150 thereafter and can be purchased online at <www.psychfoundation.org> or from the foundation office at (703) 907-8512. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
