Young, Boyer Win Assembly Election

Members of the APA Assembly took time from a packed meeting agenda in Philadelphia last month to elect their new leaders. Melinda Young, M.D., of Lafayette, Calif., who was completing a one-year term as the Assembly’s recorder, won the race to become the next speaker-elect. Young outpolled David Scasta, M.D., of Princeton, N.J. Scasta is the Assembly’s representative from the Association of Gay and Lesbian Psychiatrists.
The contest to become the next Assembly recorder saw three candidates vying for the post—Daniel Anzia, M.D., of Forest Park, Ill., the Area 4 representative; Jenny Boyer, M.D., of Oklahoma City, the representative for the Oklahoma district branch; and Eric Plakun, M.D., of Stockbridge, Mass., the representative of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis. Boyer emerged victorious and will succeed Young as recorder.
At the close of last month’s annual meeting, Scott Benson, M.D., became the new Assembly speaker, succeeding Ann Sullivan, M.D., who completed her one-year term in that post.
