A Family-Oriented Psychiatric Clinic in a General Hospital

Abstract

As the family is the basic unit of living, the authors believe that psychiatric treatment can be facilitated by applying knowledge of family dynamics, rather than merely of individual dynamics. A program based on that concept has been in operation for more than two years at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, in a clinic for children and adolescents. The program is geared to the needs of different kinds of families, and maintains a close liaison with the department of pediatrics.
