Abstract

To alleviate problems encountered by both patient and staff when one individual is moved from a mental hospital to a nursing home, the Northville (Mich.) State Hospital transferred a group of 30 patients from the same rehabilitation program. The hospital provided nursing staff to work full time at the home for a month and continued to give frequent consultation. The results of the program indicate that group placement with an intensive follow-up program can be very beneficial. Only one of the 30 patients had to be returned to the hospital.
