The Evolution of Court-Clinic Services for Adults

Abstract

A district court requested the division of law and psychiatry of the Menninger Foundation to provide a regular forensic service to the adult courts. Operating in the courthouse, the service became attached to the adult probation department and known as the court clinic. Later a comprehensive community mental health center began operation and assumed administrative control of the adult and juvenile court programs. The result is a satellite office of the community mental health center in the courthouse, staffed by a half-time psychiatrist, a part-time social worker, and psychiatric residents, concerned with providing and coordinating consultation to courthouse-based agencies.
