The General Psychiatric Management Adherence Scale (GPMAS; Kolla et al. 2009) assesses the adherence of delivered interventions to good psychiatric management (GPM) treatment. Clinicians are asked to score the amount of emphasis placed during the previous therapy session on each of 48 items, from 1 (no emphasis) to 5 (major emphasis). The scale is scored by computing the overall mean score as well as subscale scores. In a trial of 10-session GPM (Kolly et al. 2016), adherence to GPM as measured by the GPMAS explained 23% of the decrease in BPD symptoms and 16% of the improvement in general symptoms of patients with BPD. This scale can be used to assess adherence and also as a guide or checklist for keeping track of what to do and what not to do.
