Psychogenic Water Intoxication: A Case Report

Abstract

The authors describe a case of a 41-year-old schizophrenic woman who was treated for water intoxication due to compulsive water drinking. The patient presented in a coma, with convulsions and evidence of congestive heart failure. The authors describe her treatment in detail and believe that she appeared to have the most severe case of water intoxication of any reported thus far.
