Interaction of Hypnotic Suggestion and Alpha Enhancement

Publication: American Journal of Psychiatry

Abstract

Eight subjects who underwent a standardized hypnosis induction procedure before receiving alpha-enhancement training were compared with eight subjects who were given only the alpha-enhancement training. The hypnosis group did not produce significantly more alpha activity during feedback than they had during a baseline period and they produced significantly less alpha activity during the last three training sessions than the matched group of no-hypnosis controls. Differences between the results of this study and the findings of others are discussed in terms of the adequacy of the techniques involved.
