† James Owen, who authored this chapter in the first two editions of the Textbook, passed away prematurely on November 7, 2013. Dr. Owen’s knowledge regarding psychopharmacology in the medically ill was encyclopedic, and his enthusiasm for teaching and disseminating it inspirational and infectious. He will be greatly missed.
