Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy: Next Generation of Treatments

Abstract

CBT has been established as an empirically supported treatment for virtually any mental disorder and has usually been conducted in face-to-face individual or group format. In recent years, newer CBT treatments have been developed, including meta-cognitive therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and other transdiagnostic treatments.

Abstract

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been established as an empirically supported treatment for virtually any mental disorder and has usually been conducted in face-to-face individual or group format. In recent years, newer CBT treatments have been developed, including meta-cognitive therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and other transdiagnostic treatments. In order to reach more patients suffering from anxiety and mood disorders, the delivery of psychological treatments has expanded to include Internet-based CBT and the utilization of mobile devices as an augmentation to CBT.
