Abstract

Recent controversies over psychoanalytic perspectives on the treatment of homosexuality have clouded over both differences of opinion among psychoanalysts, as well as the historical evolution of these views. This retrospective overview traces changes over the years in psychoanalytic views of transference and countertransference in the treatment of homosexual patients, and highlights the current state of psychoanalytic thinking in this area.
