Didactic Persuasion Techniques in Cognitive Restructuring

Abstract

Cognitive techniques rely heavily on methods of verbal persuasion to help clients recognize the role of maladaptive thought in subjective distress and to facilitate the development of an adaptive belief system. The present article discusses those techniques of didactic persuasion that are applicable within the context of a therapeutic relationship.
