Abstract

The authors review studies related to the cause, diagnosis, and treatment of suicide in adolescents and young adults. The two- to three-fold increase in suicide rates for these groups over the past 25 years is examined from epidemiological, individual, and biopsychosocial perspectives. The results of an epidemiological study carried out by the authors in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, are summarized.
