Abstract

Abuse and neglect oj students by teachers, and abuse of teachers by students are widespread, but their frequency and consequences are undocumented. The effects are seen in some patients with diagnoses such as posttraumatic stress disorder, dissociative episodes, and a disruption in emotional development. It appears that transference feelings interfere with the students’ reporting of teachers. Teachers seem to refrain from reporting students for fear of retaliation.
