Abstract

In some cultures semen is considered as a body Juid essential for health. Psychotherapists in such cultures encounter patients attributing their complaints to semen loss. This paper describes the presenting complaints of such patients in Sri Lanka. Attitudes regarding semen loss in Sri Lanka and Japan are compared. The role of cultural beliefs in the patients’ attribution of cause of illness are discussed.
