This study demonstrated that cooperation between the information services of a mental health system and a correctional system can provide useful research data. An ongoing need exists for close coordination between mental health and correctional services in providing care to mentally ill persons during incarceration and after their release so that, optimally, their mental health cane would prevent them from reentering the prison population.
