Use of Antipsychotic and Antidepressant Drugs by Chronically Ill Patients

Publication: American Journal of Psychiatry

Abstract

Of the patients in a VA mental hygiene clinic, 81 percent receiving antipsychotic and antidepressant drugs were studied as to their use of medication and the extent to which they accurately reported their use. The authors found that a small number were not taking any of the medication, that a substantial number were taking amounts significantly less than that prescribed, and that these patients were not volunteering this information to their therapist.
