A Comparison Study of Patient Falls in a Psychiatric Setting

Abstract

Our study points to the importance of researchers' reporting their methodologies, definitions, and classffication systems in enough detail to permit interfacility comparisons. Researchers need to know the numenators and denominators used to calculate fall and injury rates. The inclusion or exclusion of frequent fallers in these rates should be noted.
We would like to encourage researchers in other psychiatric facilities to publish their fall rates and describe the methodologies used in monitoring quality assurance and in risk management.
