Abstract

Coverage for drug addiction is fairly common in both commercial and other health insurance policies, but benefits are often limited. Restrictions pertaining to treatment in specialized facilities or after incarceration, and to care by less traditional types of health personnel, are often found. Improved coverage will require ambulatory benefits and other adaptations of present insurance practices to newer settings and modalities of care.
