Drama Therapy as a Means of Rehabilitation for Schizophrenic Patients: Our Impressions

Abstract

The use of drama therapy in the rehabilitation of schizophrenic patients may be considered a combination of psychotherapy and social-skills training that allows patients to obtain a greater understanding of their emotional selves in relation to others. The program in the Krakow clinic distinguishes between several approaches in drama therapy, such as role play, film-making, and theatrical performance. The aims of two outpatient groups working on performances of Shakespeare’s plays are presented along with some organizational aspects and a step-by-step account of the procedure, from choosing and adapting the text through the performance itself.
