Abstract

Based on several recent books, this paper explores the contributions of evolutionary psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic social science and anthropology to our understanding of the human psyche and psychotherapy. The paper critiques recent pioneering efforts to integrate the biological theory of evolution into the corpus of psychoanalytic thinking. The absence of well-defined basic dimensions in the psychoanalytic domain is viewed as the most critical deficit in these probes.
