Abstract

Editor's note: Frequently we have wondered what happens to innovative treatment programs for mental patients. Do they continue to grow and flourish, or eventually fade from the scene? To shed some light on that question, H & CP plans to publish occasional follow-up reports on the Training in Community Living program at Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison, Wisconsin, a 1974 winner of an achievement award from the Hospital & Community Psychiatry Service. In this article two of the program's developers briefly describe the results of one year of research on the effectiveness of their community treatment model.
