Reply to Fleisch et al. Letter

To the Editor: We are very grateful to Drs. Fleisch, Travis, and Ryan for pointing out this discrepancy, which eluded our team during the review of the article. Thus, while the Results section and Figure 2 are accurate, it appears that at some point during the development of the abstract and discussion, an error was introduced, resulting in an underestimation of the efficacy of adjunctive SAMe by 10 percentage points in terms of response and remission. We would like to clarify that the accurate response and remission rates for SAMe, according to the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, (1) are 46.1% and 35.8%, respectively (as reported in the Results section), resulting in a number needed to treat of approximately three and four for response and remission. The same adjustment should also be made in the Discussion section. We apologize to the readers of the Journal for any confusion this discrepancy may have caused and are grateful for the opportunity to clarify our results.
