Suicide in patients with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders can be a medical and societal challenge. Clinicians should be well versed in its detection and management. The literature has consistently demonstrated that the prevalence and frequency of suicide attempts in patients with schizophrenia are significantly higher than those of the general population. An estimated 4%–10% of this population will die from suicide and 25%–50% will make suicide attempts in their lifetime (Balhara and Verma 2012).
