Suicide is a current health crisis that disproportionately affects U.S. military personnel and veterans. This chapter is intended to serve as a resource to help providers who work with these populations and to complement other chapters in this book that discuss suicide risk assessment, prevention, and treatment. Discussions regarding suicide rates among military personnel are limited to active-duty service members (ADSMs); however, most of the clinical information also applies to guardsmen and reservists, who play an important role our country’s defense.
