New Research Submissions Sought for Annual Meeting

Researchers have until January 4 to submit proposals for new research presentations for APA’s 2002 annual meeting, which will be held May 18 to 23 in Philadelphia.
The new research format allows researchers to discuss the latest findings from original research using scientific methods. The data may not have been published prior to January 4, 2002.
Poster sessions have become an extremely popular format for the communication of a wide variety of state-of-the-art research findings and have sparked lively discussion at the annual meeting.
Two poster sessions will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21 and 22, from noon to 2 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. One session will be held on Thursday, May 23, from noon to 2 p.m. The poster sessions will be held in the Convention Center.
The New Research Young Investigators sessions provide researchers at the start of their research careers with the opportunity to discuss their works in progress with colleagues and senior investigators. There will be two Young Investigators poster sessions held in the Philadelphia Convention Center on Monday, May 20, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Residents, medical students, and research fellows who wish to have their work considered for one of these special poster sessions are asked to use the new research submissions form and check the box on the form marked “Young Investigators Poster Session.”
The top-graded young investigator submissions will be selected for presentation in one of three special oral/slide sessions in which young investigators may present their research to an audience interactively. These sessions will be held at the Philadelphia Convention Center on Monday, May 20, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Each presentation is 18 minutes (15 minutes for presentation and three minutes for questions and answers).
All new research submissions will be reviewed and graded by the APA Subcommittee on New Research. The committee will notify submitters of its decisions sometime in March.
Those interested in submitting a proposal may obtain a form by calling APA at (202) 682-6000. Only generic drug names may be used, and submissions must be postmarked no later than January 4, 2002.
