APA Invites Candidate Suggestions For 2006 Election

APA invites recommendations for candidates for APA's 2006 election for president-elect, secretary-treasurer, early career psychiatrist (ECP) trustee-at-large, and member-in-training (MIT) trustee-elect.
Two of the positions—the ECP trustee-at-large and MIT trustee-elect—have special requirements.
ECPs are APA members in the first seven years after becoming eligible to be a general member. Eligibility for general membership begins upon completion of training. Nominees must be ECPs at the time of nomination and for the period of their term, which is three years. APA members may recommend themselves or others for the ECP trustee position.
The MIT position is a two-year commitment. The resident elected in the 2006 election will serve on the Board for one year without a vote (May 2006 to May 2007) and then advance to the MIT trustee position with a vote (May 2007 to May 2008).
Residents interested in running for the MIT position must be APA members-in-training when recommended for the position; that is, they must have been accepted as APA members in both APA and their district branch. They must be in their PGY-2 or PGY-3 year this summer.
Moreover, nominees must have written permission from their training directors to fulfill the two-year commitment as MIT trustee-elect and MIT trustee as a part of their training.
Recommendations for president-elect, secretary-treasurer, and ECP trustee-at-large may be made online at<www.psych.org/members/gov/election2006/2006eslectionnominee.cfm>. The deadline for nominations for these positions is June 30.
Submissions for the MIT position may be made online at<www.psych.org/edu/res_fellows/mitnominees.cfm>. This site also lists the requirements for the position. The deadline for submissions is August 5.
Further information is available from Carol Lewis by phone at (703) 907-7852 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Nomination packets should be mailed to Michelle Riba, M.D., Chair, APA Nominating Committee, 1000 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 1825, Arlington, Va. 22209; Attn: Carol Lewis. Packets may also be e-mailed to Lewis or faxed to (703) 907-7852.
