Ron McMillen, CEO of APPI, responds:

As the person responsible for publication of the APA appointment book for nearly 30 years I, too, am sad to see it go. At the peak of its popularity, more than 5,000 members used it and/or its pocket companion. And the compendium of organizations and meetings was a unique and useful feature. As the years have gone by, however, the organizations failed to provide the necessary information on a timely basis, and the number of users had fallen below 1,000 by 2005. With a production cost per book at well above any reasonable price, we felt we could no longer subsidize the appointment book for a benefit so few members wanted.
I stopped using mine several years ago with the arrival of PDAs. I suspect that some APA members may have done likewise.
