Historical Background in Children with Affective Disorders

Publication: American Journal of Psychiatry

Abstract

A study of the histories of 50 children with affective disorders revealed that certain environmental factors were present either singly or in combination in every case. When these environmental factors were related to the three types of childhood depression previously outlined by the authors, each category of depression could be linked with a characteristic cluster of environmental factors; for two of the categories, a specific environmental factor was present in every case studied.
