We discuss briefly in this chapter the definition, epidemiology, and clinical assessment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as overlapping neurochemical and neuroanatomical changes associated with PTSD and traumatic brain injury (TBI). We also summarize the major treatments for PTSD, including pharmacological, psychological, and other treatments. Each section, where relevant, incorporates the unique characteristics of PTSD in the context of TBI, including mild TBI (mTBI).
