Excerpt

More than 2.5 million Americans currently serve in the U.S. military either on active duty, in the Reserves, or in the National Guard, and more than 20 million civilians are veterans of military service. These current and former service members and their families seek health care in military, veteran, and civilian settings. Some health care providers may be familiar with the military, but others may be less familiar because it is an organization with its own language, rules, customs, and culture.
