Growing evidence demonstrates the complex and persistent nature of brain injury, suggesting a need to modify health systems and educate care providers about the chronic and dynamic health condition that is chronic brain injury (CBI). The following consensus statement describing CBI was developed through the efforts of a group of brain injury experts participating in the Galveston Brain Injury Conference (GBIC):
