Management of Unresolved Hypnotic Trances as Forms of Acute Psychiatric Emergencies

Publication: American Journal of Psychiatry

Abstract

Two cases of hypnotic subjects who had to be "rehypnotized" to be brought out of their trances are described. Some background information regarding their cases as well as observations about hypnotic subjects are reviewed to help understand why they remained in fixed trances. The method of bringing them out of their trances is described, and recommendations for post-treatment follow-up care are made.
