Hallucinations are some of the most troubling symptoms of severe mental illness. Although it was thought at one time that hallucinations were largely resistant to psychotherapeutic interventions, specific CBT interventions have been developed to help patients reduce their distress and build coping skills for managing these symptoms. This chapter outlines practical CBT methods for understanding and managing hallucinatory experiences.
