Excerpt
This chapter focuses on the application of motivational principles to the engagement of patients in mutual/self-help groups. To start, I define mutual/self-help, clarify the difference between formal treatment and self-help, and then explain several types of self-help groups. Clinical cases and tips for teaching and supervising on this subject are presented, including an excerpt from a television series. As in the other chapters, review questions end the chapter.
