The axioms and principles of trauma-centered psychotherapy (see Chapters 2 and 4, respectively) provide a firm basis for every session during which this work is conducted. Once the trauma-centered frame is established with the client (see Chapter 3), the therapist can begin to implement the four main techniques that are used to impact the client’s trauma schemas. These four techniques are described in this chapter (Table 5–1). Other techniques used for specific situations or clients are described in later chapters.
