Sections
Excerpt
Advances in surgical and medical treatment have greatly improved survival from a variety of chronic illnesses including many types of cancer. However, frequently, sexual function is negatively affected. Approximately 30% of the general population reports sexual difficulties, and about 10% reports long-lasting problems that cause distress, but in some medical conditions, such as end-stage renal disease (ESRD), sexual dysfunction seems almost inevitable: the prevalence of desire disorders in men and women may reach 100% (Peng et al. 2007).
