Patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) should be able to assume that the professionals who treat them have been trained to do so. Equally, professionals should be able to assume that they will receive the training they need to provide good care for their patients. In this handbook, the authors present a basic prescription of what to do and what not to do in the care of adolescents with BPD. They provide guidance about how to provide such care, with usual components of good care for any psychiatric condition that most clinicians can readily learn or already know. After reading this handbook, you will have a basic updated fund of knowledge and clear framework for understanding BPD, which you can use to educate patients about the innate disposition underlying their vulnerabilities and to foster steady management of patients’ lives so they can build mental health, self-esteem, and stability in relationships.
