Annual Meeting Highlights

Here are just some of the annual meeting highlights and general information that will help you get the most out of your experience at the meeting.
Opening Session: Sunday, May 4, 4:30 p.m.-6:45 p.m. Opening ceremonies will be followed by a dialogue between APA President Jeffrey Lieberman, M.D., Nobel Prize–Winning psychiatrist Eric Kandel, M.D., and award-winning actor and science communicator Alan Alda, on the impact of science and the media on psychiatry and how they will influence the future of mental health. Hall 3E, Javits Convention Center.
Convocation of Distinguished Fellows: Monday, May 5, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. The session includes the induction of distinguished fellows and introduction of 50-year distinguished life fellows, life fellows, and life members; international distinguished fellows, life fellows, and fellows; presentation of awards; and the presentation of the William C. Menninger Memorial Convocation Lecture. Hall 3E, Javits Convention Center.
Registration/Course Enrollment: Friday, May 2, noon-7 p.m.; Saturday-Tuesday, May 3-6, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Wednesday, May 7, 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Halls 3A/B, Javits Convention Center.
Course Enrollment and Registration: Friday, May 2, 3 p.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday-Tuesday, May 3-6, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Promenade, Second Floor, New York Hilton Midtown Hotel.
Courses/Master Courses: All courses/master courses/seminars will be held at the New York Hilton Midtown Hotel. Course hours are Saturday-Tuesday, May 3-6, 8 a.m.-noon, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Exceptions: there will be no afternoon courses on Sunday, and the buprenorphine course will be held Tuesday, May 6, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
New Research Posters: Resident Competition Poster Sessions: Saturday, May 3, 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. -2 p.m.; International Poster Session: Saturday, May 3, 2:30 p.m.-4 p.m. For other poster sessions, check the program guide. Hall 3A/B, Javits Convention Center.
Media Workshops: Along with sessions scheduled during the day, there will be one evening session each day, Saturday-Tuesday, May 3-6, 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Astor Ballroom, New York Marriot Marquis.
APA Member Center and APP Bookstore: Saturday, May 3, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sunday-Tuesday, May 4-6, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Halls 3A/B, Javits Convention Center.
Publishers’ Book Fair, International Meeting Booths, and Career Fair: Saturday, May 3, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sunday-Tuesday, May 4-6, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Halls 3A/B, Javits Convention Center.
Exhibits: Sunday-Tuesday, May 4-6, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Halls 3A/B, Javits Convention Center.
American Psychiatric Foundation Benefit: Saturday, May 3, 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum Complex.
MindGames: Tuesday, May 6, 6 p.m.-7 p.m., hosted by Glen Gabbard, M.D. Broadway North/South, New York Marriott Marquis.
Shuttle Busing: Saturday-Wednesday, May 3-7. Starts each day at 7 a.m. with pick up at hotels; last departure from Javits Convention Center: Saturday-Monday, May 3-5, 7:30 p.m.; Tuesday-Wednesday, May 6-7, 5:30 p.m ■
