Master Course to Explain Fine Points of DSM-5

Following the release of the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) at least year’s APA annual meeting, the Division of Research will repeat its all-day master course at this year’s annual meeting to further train clinicians on the proper use of the revised manual. “DSM-5: What You Need to Know” will be held on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel New York and will be chaired by DSM-5 Task Force Chair and Vice Chair David Kupfer, M.D., and Darrel Regier, M.D., M.P.H. The course will feature presentations from members of each of the 13 DSM-5 work groups.

In addition to reviewing the most significant diagnostic criteria changes of clinical relevance, presenters will orient attendees to other important issues impacting patient care, including abolishment of the multiaxial system; DSM-5’s revised approach to dimensional assessment, including that of disability; the purpose and use of the new ICD-10-CM codes; the reasoning behind DSM-5’s new chapter structure; and more.
