DSM-5 Course Examines Clinical Implications of Diagnostic Revisions

Rather than solely summarize revisions to the recently released fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), this year’s DSM-5 master course will provide a more clinically focused, in-depth view of select diagnostic categories. These will include presentations from DSM-5 chapters on neurodevelopmental disorders; depressive and bipolar disorders; schizophrenia and psychotic spectrum disorders; obsessive-compulsive and related disorders; trauma and stress-related disorders; and substance use and other addictive disorders. The primary emphasis is on ensuring clinicians understand how the changes in DSM-5 might impact patient care and what modifications might be necessary to implement these revisions in their practice. The session will be led by DSM-5 Task Force Vice Chair Darrel A. Regier, M.D., M.P.H., and DSM-5 Task Force Research Director William E. Narrow, M.D., M.P.H., and will take place Monday, May 18, in the Grand Ballroom East of the Sheraton Centre.
