There are many different paths toward a successful career in psychiatry. While ultimately each individual needs to find his or her own way, there can be tremendous value in hearing about the journeys of others who became leaders in the field.
With that in mind, APA’s Division of Education will present a series of “Interactive Sessions” at this year’s Annual Meeting in Atlanta featuring well-known psychiatrists who will talk about their area of expertise as well as the path they took to get into the positions they are in today.
These 11 sessions will cover a broad range of topics including integrated care, women’s health, and advocacy. Three of these sessions will include speakers that have released recent books that they will discuss as part of the “Meet the Author” sessions (see below for full schedule).
The interactive sessions aim to go beyond a standardized presentation with PowerPoint slides and a brief Q&A, according to APA Education Director Tristan Gorrindo, M.D.
“While each of the sessions has a broad topic, we want the audience to take an active part in shaping and guiding the actual conversation,” he said. “We want them to feel that they’ve not only learned something about the expert presenter, but also something about themselves.”
