G6 Leaders Speak to Members of Congress on Collaborative Care, Workforce

In late October, APA President Ramaswamy Viswanathan, M.D., participated in the Group of Six Leadership Fly-In in Washington, D.C. During the event, Group of Six leaders met with key House and Senate staff to discuss the importance of legislation to improve patients’ access to care and support the health care workforce. Collectively, the organizations represent nearly 600,000 member physicians dedicated to the health and well-being of American families.

Hubka, D.O., president of the American Osteopathic Association; Benjamin Hoffman, M.D., president of the American Academy of Pediatrics; Jen Brull, M.D., president of the American Academy of Family Physicians; Isaac Opole, M.D., president of the American College of Physicians; and Stella Dantas, M.D., president of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
The leaders discussed a variety of issues with congressional staff. They expressed support for legislation that would promote uptake of integrated care in the primary care setting, including the collaborative care model. They also emphasized the need to address looming cuts to Medicare reimbursement, reauthorize maternal health programs, and extend current telehealth flexibilities, among other topics. ■
