In Reply: I greatly appreciate Mr. Mark's thoughtful response to my column on split treatment. He articulates a major concern of many psychiatric educators: Are psychiatric residents currently provided the time and training to develop the skills necessary for the listening and understanding that are essential in a clinician's psychiatric armamentarium? Mr. Mark also rightfully underscores the negative results of clinicians' bowing to the assumed power of third-party payers.
