Join the APA Alliance And Spread the Word

When he was the U.S. surgeon general, David Satcher, M.D., declared mental illness a public health crisis. “Life is full of golden opportunities disguised as insolvable problems,” he said.
How can each one of you help solve the problems confronting psychiatry and people with mental illness in this country today? One way is encourage your spouse, partner, or friends to join the American Psychiatric Association Alliance. For annual dues of $35 a year, it’s a chance to make a difference.
The APA Alliance promotes mental health education and the prevention and treatment of mental illness by advocating for psychiatrists and the people they treat. It shares APA’s goals while bringing a close fellowship among the families.
The APA Alliance supports many worthwhile projects—among them are the annual high school essay project, “When Not to Keep a Secret,” National MediaWatch, National Legislative Network, Elsa Barton Scholarship Fund, and Robert E. Jones Foundation.
The APA Alliance works closely with other alliances and programs, such as the Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, American Medical Association Alliance, and parent-teacher associations.
Those eligible for membership include spouses or partners of APA members and individuals sponsored by an APA Alliance or APA member.
More information is available from Angela Poblocki, Secretary, APA Alliance, P.O. Box 285, North Boston, N.Y. 14110 or on the APA Alliance’s Web site at www.apaalliance.org/. A membership application can be downloaded from www.apaalliance.org/PDFs/MemberApp.pdf?.
