Residents: Fall Institute Wants You, Your Research

Psychiatry residents will have a valuable opportunity in October to present their research at a national meeting sponsored by APA.
APA will be hosting its next Institute on Psychiatric Services from October 29 to November 2 in Boston. The institute will feature poster sessions that will make it easy for residents who are working on research projects to present their findings to a national audience. In the past, roughly 90 percent of all poster submissions were accepted for presentation at the institute.
The poster sessions—seven in all—will begin October 29 and end November 1. The submission deadline is June 2.
Residents will be able to attend the institute at a reduced registration fee of $60 if they register by September 29, the advance registration deadline.
In addition to the poster sessions, the institute will include many other experiences of particular interest to residents, such as leadership and career development seminars, a full-day session on homeless mentally ill people, the “Meet the Experts” luncheon for residents to consult and network with nationally known faculty, a residents-only welcoming reception, clinical consultation session on a wide variety of topics in general and public psychiatry, and mentoring opportunities for residents new to the institute by the APA/Bristol-Myers Squibb Fellows and APIRE/Janssen Fellows.
There will be daily prize drawings and receptions in the Exhibit Hall and industry-supported breakfast, lunch, and dinner symposia.
Residents interested in submitting posters may obtain a submission by calling APA’s Answer Center at (888) 357-7924. Forms may also be downloaded from APA’s Web site at www.psych.org. The completed forms may be faxed to (703) 907-1090.
More information is available by contacting Jill Gruber, associate director of the Institute on Psychiatric Services, by phone at (703) 907-1090 or by e-mail at [email protected].
