CPA HONORS JOURNALIST FOR REPORTING ON MENTAL ILLNESS

Louise Elliott (center), a reporter for the Canadian Press, receives the Special Recognition Award from the Canadian Psychiatric Association (CPA) for her reporting on the impact of mental illness on Canadian communities and citizens last month. With her are Beth Gorham, Ottawa bureau chief for Canadian Press, and Pierre Beauséjour, M.D., chair of the CPA Board of Directors. Gorham had nominated Elliott for the award.
The Special Recognition Award is part of the CPA’s efforts to raise awareness about mental illness. It recognizes individuals who display outstanding leadership and dedication to the promotion of mental illness awareness.
“Louise Elliott’s in-depth reports on mental illness and her long-standing commitment to inform the public about mental illness tears away at the barrier of stigma that often surrounds these illnesses,” said Beauséjour at the award presentation.
