APA Members Invited To Show Off Artistic Side

William A. Alvarez, M.D., stands beside his work “La Princesse d’Ouagadougou,” which won first prize in the category of mixed-media painting and the Best of Show Award last year.
All APA members and their spouses who have given wing to their innermost selves through art are encouraged to share their creations at APA’s 2003 annual meeting in San Francisco.
Their work will be part of the APA Art Association’s annual exhibit, which will be held this year from May 17 to 21 next to the APA Resource Center in Hall D in the Moscone Center. Awards will be presented on May 20 based on votes cast by viewers who come to see the art.
The APA Art Association was formed 32 years ago to provide a venue for not only displaying the creative productions of APA members and spouses, but also to enhance the feeling of collegiality between fellow artists and the artistic enjoyment of attendees at the annual meeting.
To exhibit at the annual meeting, APA members and spouses must join the APA Art Association, but the membership fee of $30 includes the cost of exhibiting up to two pieces of work. For those who wish to enter more pieces, the charge is $5 each for a maximum of six pieces.
Works are invited in the following categories: ceramics, computer art, crafts, graphics and drawings, oil paintings, mixed-media paintings, watercolor paintings, black-and-white photographs, color photographs, sculpture, jewelry, fiber, and other uncategorized media.
The members of the APA Art Association hope that colleagues who have yet to join the association will take advantage of this opportunity to share not only the products of their artistic expression, but also their ideas and insights with others who have an interest in art while enjoying APA’s premier educational event of the year.
Those who wish to join the APA Art Association and exhibit their work at the annual meeting are asked to contact the association’s president, Gail Barton, M.D., M.P.H., as soon as possible. She may be contacted at 56½ Merchant’s Row, Rutland, Vt. 05701; phone: (802) 773-8928; fax: (802) 773-9026; e-mail: [email protected].
More information on the exhibit and a membership application are posted on the Web at www.psych.org/sched_events/ann_mtg_03/arp/18artassoctentsched112502.pdf. A membership application was included in the annual meeting’s advance registration information packet, which was mailed to all APA members in January.
